Fresh off this week’s guest starring gig on ABC’s “Castle,” (huh?) Lyle Lovett is co-starring on tour again with friend and fellow singer-songwriter extraordinaire John Hiatt. The twosome come back to The Egg in Albany for an acoustic concert on Tuesday, Jan. 25. Tickets go on sale to the public on Tuesday, Nov. 23.
High school is tough, but does it require Blood, Sweat and Tears? Ballston Spa High seems to think so because they are bringing in the classic ’60s-’70s pop-rock group for a benefit show on Tuesday, Feb. 15. Money raised will go to support the Arts in the Ballston Spa Central School District. Superintendent of Schools and tenor saxophonist Joseph P. Dragone, along with members of the Ballston Spa High School Jazz Ensemble, will join the band for some songs.
If you are into highly suspicious sports teams with questionably legal winning streaks and a history of blowouts, then by all means whistle “Sweet Georgia Brown” all the way down to the Times Union Center on Sunday, Feb. 27, for a game between the Harlem Globetrotters and … who are we kidding, does it really matter? Tickets go on sale Monday, Nov. 22.
Maryland hard-rockers Clutch headline a show at Northern Lights in Clifton Park on Tuesday, Dec. 28. also on the bill: Kylesa, a Georgia metal group noted for having a female guitarist and taking their name from “kilesa mara”, a Buddhist term for “demons of delusion and defilement”; and fellow southerners Righteous Fool, featuring two members of metal group Corrosion of Conformity. Tickets go on sale 10 a.m. Friday.
Is it our Imagination?
The Imagination Movers were a New Orleans rock band for kids with short videos on PBS when they drew the attention of Disney talent scouts who built a live-action musical kids show to air on the Disney Channel’s Playhouse Disney programming block. All looked up for the former firefighter, architect, teacher and journalist … until Hurricane Katrina hit. Three of the jumpsuited members lost their homes and the show was pushed back to 2006. now a mainstay of the station, the Imagination Movers have bestselling CDs, spinoffs and a live stage tour, “In a Big Warehouse,” that brings them to the Glens Falls Civic Center on Thursday, April 14.
The Irish American heritage Museum brings back Irish crooner Andy Cooney for their own benefit. Literally. Cooney’s “Classic Irish Christmas” show at the Troy Savings Bank Music Hall on Saturday, Dec. 11, is to raise funds for the museum’s educational programs in the Capital Region and its exhibits, including the new “Irish and the Erie Canal” being developed for 2011. In addition to Cooney, the talent includes Irish entertainers such as “King of Blarney” comedian George Casey, soprano Emma Kate Tobia, the Darrah Carr Dancers, musical director Brian Moran, Matthew Fisher on flute and whistles and guitarist Colm Grahm, as well as Albany’s own percussionist Jimmy Kelly.
Due to a medical issue with one of the band members, Apocalyptica has rescheduled their Northern Lights show from Dec. 4 to March 12. Already purchased tickets will be honored on the new date.
