Should the Big Ten reassess its bowl tie-ins?

I know everybody is on the big ten sucks bandwagon at the moment but I think it is more to do with the competition they play. The problem they are experiencing could be do to the fact that since teams no longer are able to stockpile all the talent because of the new scholarship rules the teams and leagues are starting to balance out.
Proof of the balancing rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/bl… (if you don't have time to poor over the numbers which were only accurate up to October anyways, in the last 10 years no BCS conference is more than 4.5% above or below a .500 record vs other BCS conferences).

In a 10 team conference statistically you have 20% less teams that could be good when compared to the 12 team conferences. Matching up 1 for 1 with other larger conferences do not make sense because in one particular season it is not a factor but over a couple decades it is an inevitability that you will have a losing record. Realistically your 5 place team should be playing the 6/7th place team if you go down the chart properly. It is like saying that the last place team in the big ten is even with the tenth place team in the SEC (yet again in a single season plausible but over time no way).

Non BCS Bowl match ups for the big ten include:

Capital one Bowl – big ten #2 vs SEC #2
Outback BowlBig – ten #3 SEC #3/4
Alamo Bowl -Big ten #4/5 vs big 12 #4/5
Champs Sports Bowl -Big ten #4/5 ACC #4
Insight Bowl – big ten #6 vs big 12 #6
Motor City Bowl -Big ten #7 vs MAC #1

Why would they do that? not one match up on that list by just looking at it seams fair. especially when you take into effect that the big ten is getting 2 teams into the BCS for no reason now days to make the match ups even more lop-sided.

So my question is do you think it is time for the big ten to take a step back and seriously consider diluting that bowl schedule a little bit like the PAC 10 does or do you think they should hold their course and hope that they return to glory?

Your question gave me a headache, and temporarily took all the fun out of being a college football fan. let me go get my calculator and protractor…then I'll read your question again.

Big 10 shouldn't even get an automatic bid for a BCS game the way they've been playing lately (Boise State and Utah are better programs that anything in the big 10)….Michigan should be forbidden from playing the game this past year they were so bad. and I know Notre Dame is an independent school, but they should also be suspended for bad play. They're just awful….awful, awful, awful!!!! The top 3 big 12 South schools could beat any program in the big 10, and they are all in the same conference (OU, UT, Texas Tech), all located within 300 miles of one another.

Both conferences got $18 million for Rose Bowl participation this year. so the answer is no.

Should the Big Ten reassess its bowl tie-ins?

couple decades, proof, team conferences
