There is an overpass in our area that needs to have traffic lights installed. Reason for this is because so many drivers coming off the interstate do not stop when entering the 2 lane highway crossing over the bridge. in other words they come up the ramp and continue driving onto the highway in front of oncoming traffic, which of course have the ride away. Who would have the authority in a particular area to make this decision. If they don't someone is going to get killed. I have had one wreck because of careless drivers and now I had a close call yesterday. Traffic was coming from all different directions.
If this is in a city go before your Town Commissioners when they have their public monthly meeting. when the floor is open to new business, state your name and your concerns! If this is in the county call Highway Patrol speak with a Sgt. ask if he/she will send an officer out to that location to complete a " Road condition report ". If the officer feels that it's a safety issue, they will contact DOT. If this location is in a city, take several witnesses with you to the meeting and state they are with you. If it's a big enough issue they will have the Town manager to contact DOT to see if the location can be traffic wise constructed with a traffic light without having to reconstruct any lanes. this is when DOT looks at the history of traffic accidents for that location and how much is it going to cost? being an officer, if the location is as bad as you say it is, I hope you win. your Welcome.
Either City Hall or Department of Transportation.

contact the mayor or the person in charge of streets
1) You need to go to the police department Records Section and try to get information on accidents in that area for the last year. Hopefully they can give you a print-out of some kind for documentation.
Then talk with a supervisor in the Traffic Bureau at the PD and ask them what you need to do to get that area monitored by them so they can see what the problems are. They can then back you up or they can turn in the necessary requests for lights or stop signs of some kind.
2) take all your documentation and write a letter to the Mayor or City Council and then go to the City Council meeting and lay down the facts and ask for a light in that area.
3) You could also contact one of the TV stations in your area and bring this to their attention and see if they can help you bring attention to ALL the city officials that need to know about the problem.
My city council, probably the most worthless group of people in the country, anyway, they have these open door things, you can watch them on TV when citizens go in there and talk to the city council and tell them about issues they would like resolved. the city doesn't respond at that time but does talk about the issues mentioned later and makes proposals, etc. So, look into your city hall.
City hall would be your best choice
