NASHVILLE, Tenn. – the Tennessee Firearms Association held the second of two question and answer sessions with Tennessee gubernatorial candidates Democrat Mike McWherter and Republican bill Haslam.the sessions were held at the Golden Corral in Hermitage where several members of the TFA openly carried their weapons on their hips.

TFA president John Harris said at Monday night's meeting, “Tennessee, as we've seen over the past few years, is a pretty strong state in terms of supporting the capacity of citizens to own firearms and to carry them when they feel a need, and what we're wanting to access between these two candidates is where are they going to be personally if these issues go up.”

McWherter was in the hot seat last month, but Monday night, it was Haslam's turn to speak and answer questions about gun rights.

He told News 2, “The second amendment gives us all the right to keep and bear arms and that's a constitutionally protected right that's a supreme court affirmed, and as governor, I will work hard to protect those because that's something really important to Tennesseans.”

News 2 also spoke with McWherter at Harper's Restaurant Monday.

“I saw where my opponent bill Haslam made the comment that he didn't even own a gun. I do. my son hunts. I've been a member of the NRA for years. my son who's 19-years-old has been a member of the NRA twice as long as bill Haslam has, but the bottom line is, I don't think guns and alcohol mix,” he said.the Tennessee Firearm Association will post their question and answer sessions of both candidates on their website at TFAonline.org.

Early voting lasts until Oct. 28, and the general election is November 2.
