Here are some Veterans Day events planned Thursday around the area:
CHICO — A Veterans Day celebration will be held 11 a.m. to noon Thursday at Chico Elks Lodge, 1705 Manzanita Ave.
Weather permitting, 150 American flags will be displayed around the lodge. Patriotic music will be provided by the Chico Community Band under the direction of Bernie Farmer.
Guest speaker will be Command Sgt. Maj. Janell S. Word, a native of Anderson. She is currently the Command Sergeant Major of the 393rd MP Battalion in Bell.
Word has a service record that includes a number of awards, including the Bronze Star. She also holds a degree in education and teaching certification from Chico State University.
A contribution will be presented to veterans from Chico Elks. Pam Thornton will evoke divine intervention with the singing of God Bless America. A light lunch will be served after the ceremony.
OROVILLE — Oroville Exchange Club’s Veterans Day Parade begins at 11 a.m. Thursday, along Montgomery Street from Fifth Avenue to Downer Street.
Marching will be the American Legion, VFW posts, Veterans Memorial Park Committee, Central School Marching Band, community groups and emergency services.
Honorary grand marshals are Bob Wolfersberger, who was in the Philippines when the Japanese captured him at Battan, and Homer Cooley, who was shot down in 1944 and spent time as a German POW.
There will be a salute to veterans by OroDam Cruisers, the California National Guard (2668 Transportation co.) and families who have loved ones serving in Afghanistan.

GRIDLEY — Sons of the Union Veterans of the Civil War will hold a ceremony commemorating the last Civil War veteran of Butte County, Private Henry Clay Veatch, Company C, 5th Indiana Cavalry.
It will take place at 4 p.m. Thursday at Gridley-Biggs Cemetery, 2023 Hwy. 99.
Later in the day, a musical tribute will be given to all veterans at 7 p.m. at Veterans Hall on Sycamore Street. the Oroville Community Band, directed by Jim Christensen, will be featured. Jim Moll will be the master of ceremonies.
The free program is sponsored by Military Veterans Court of Honor, Gridley Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion.
WILLOWS — A ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Willows Memorial Hall, 525 W. Sycamore St. Featured speakers will be bill Brown, Dennis James and Dan Roach. Music will be provided by the Glenn Chorale.
CHICO — Military veterans from WWII to the present will conduct a panel discussion on “Peace and the Military: 1940-2010,” 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday, at Chico Peace and Justice Center, 526 Broadway.
Veterans will describe their military experience and reflect on the progress or lack of it toward achieving world peace.

CHICO — Windsor Chico Creek Care & Rehabilitation will host a Veterans Day dedication at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in front of the building, 587 Rio Lindo Ave.
The Chico Veterans Honor Guard will perform the dedication for veterans.
CHICO — the Terraces Senior Living, 2750 Sierra Sunrise Terrace, plans an afternoon of activities Thursday. A program will be put on 2-3 p.m., followed by buggy rides 3-4 p.m. and a barbecue dinner 4-6 p.m. after dinner, there will be an hour of guitar music.
