In one of the most exciting games of the weekend, the Oakland Raiders were able to defeat the Kansas City Chiefs 23-20 in an overtime effort.
Raiders quarterback, Jason Campbell managed to throw a 47-yard beauty to rookie receiver Jacoby Ford in the extra minutes to set up kicker, Sebastian Janikowski for a 33-yarder. Being arguably the most consistent scorer on the Oakland roster, the veteran kicker had no problems putting the ball through the uprights and securing a three-point victory for his ever-improving Raiders squad.
In overtime, the Chiefs won the toss but were unable to make plays or get a first down. As a result, the Raiders started their drive at their own 38-yard line.
Prior to that, Campbell caught Ford with a 29-yard pass in the final seconds of the fourth quarter to set up Janikowski's game-tying 41-yarder.
Ford caught six passes on the day for 148 yards. He also returned the opening kick of the second half for a touchdown.
At one point, Oakland trailed by three when they took over on their own 25-yard line with a little over two minutes remaining in the game. Campbell was able to make the most out of two third-down plays, and then was able to hit Ford in the final seconds of regulation. after Ford's reception, the team rushed to the line and spiked the ball with seven seconds remaining to make time for Janikowski's field goal.
The Chiefs had a 20-17 lead up until the final two minutes of the game off a 20-yard pass from quarterback, Matt Cassel to receiver, Dwayne Bowe with over six minutes remaining in the game.
The Raiders had gained just 54 yards to start the second half prior to Ford's touchdown.
Desperate to mix things up on offense, Oakland ran four direct snaps to running back, Darren McFadden in the first quarter. both teams were unable to convert on fake punts.
With their third win of the year, the Raiders are going into their bye week a mere half-game behind the Chiefs for the lead of the division.
The Raiders have not had a winning record at any point since being 2-1 in 2004. They haven't had a winning record this late in the season at any point since their notable 2002 season.
With their impressive victory, the Raiders covered the one-point line that was installed for them in this NFL Week 9 match up by Online Sportsbooks.
