Old Glory isn’t always so glorious in Mesa.
In the months after the 9/11 terrorist attacks, it became a statement of patriotic pride to fly the American flag outside homes and businesses.
But a three-week visual inspection of more than 100 flags around town by the Mesa Republic revealed more than two- dozen cases where flags were severely tattered, faded or torn in violation of the U.S. Flag Code.
