Is it true that police departments nationwide are preparing for election night civil unrest?

"Police departments countrywide think it's a possibility, and they're preparing for riots or other violent reactions to a McCain or Obama victory, The Hill reports.

There is particular concern that a loss by Obama, who has built a big lead in the polls, could prompt significant problems.

"Some worry that if Barack Obama loses and there is suspicion of foul play in the election, violence could ensue in cities with large black populations," The Hill writes. Detroit, Chicago, Oakland and Philadelphia are among the cities that plan to have extra police deployed."

I think it has more to do with the financial collapse which was foreseen with far more clarity than is being admitted to rather than the election per se but the election still figures in as a fuse of pent up public hostility ready to explode in the face of the consequences of dubyas economy.
It is reported that the trillion dollar bail out was promoted to the legislature under the duress of instigating martial law if the bill failed to pass with expediency.

Yes. With all the voter fraud this will be corrupt election. if Obama wins people will chalk it up to his Acorn people. if McCain wins people will chalk it up to racism. what a sorry mess we've gotten ourselves into this time.
